The “Virtual Living Lab: Durban Challenge – Improving water and wastewater catchments” kicked off on Thursday, 20th May 2021 with 35 participants from South Africa, The Netherlands and various other countries. The first session introduced the catchment challenges facing Durban in a presentation by Speedy Moodliar. The students were given an opportunity to interact with each other in breakout groups based on their chosen interest between: freshwater, wastewater and water reuse.
The students were given assignments within their groups and have been actively working in these groups in preparation for the second session on the 3rd June 2021. The students will listen to more presentations on the challenges facing Durban and the current innovative interventions in place. We are looking forward to engaging further with the students who will have an opportunity to present their ideas for catchment management solutions in the final session on the 17th June 2021.
